Change management training - the fundamentals

Two days · in-person

A two-day course covering the core frameworks and practical tools that make change succeed. You will leave with a change plan built from your real situation, ready to use.

You have been asked to lead a change. Maybe it is a new system, a restructure, a process overhaul, or a shift in how teams work. You know the change matters. But you also know that most change programmes struggle - not because the strategy is wrong, but because people were not brought along properly.

This two-day course gives you the core frameworks and practical tools that make change work. Not a whistle-stop tour of every model ever published - a focused grounding in the ones that research shows actually matter, taught through doing rather than listening.

What you will work on

Over two days, you will build a complete change approach for a real initiative - yours or one from your organisation. The course is structured around four things every change practitioner needs to get right:

Understanding where people are - Before you can move people from here to there, you need to know where "here" is. You will use the ADKAR model to assess where individuals and groups are in their readiness for change, and the change curve to understand the emotional journey people go through during transitions. These are not abstract models - you will apply them to your own situation and see immediately where the gaps are.

Planning your approach - Change does not happen because someone writes a plan. It happens when people understand why the change matters, what it means for them, and what they need to do differently. You will use Kotter's 8-step process and stakeholder mapping to design an approach that accounts for the human side of change - not just the project plan.

Getting communication right - Most change communication fails because it talks at people rather than with them. You will develop a communication approach for your specific change - who needs to hear what, when, through which channels, and how you will listen as well as broadcast.

Keeping it on track - A plan is only as good as your ability to adjust it. You will learn practical ways to monitor how change is landing, spot problems early, and adapt your approach when things do not go as expected.

Who this is for

Anyone responsible for making change happen. That might mean project managers who need people to adopt what they are delivering, HR professionals supporting a restructure, team leaders implementing new ways of working, or consultants building their change toolkit.

You do not need prior change management experience. If you have some, this course will give it structure. If you do not, it will give you a strong foundation.

What you will take away

A completed change plan for your real initiative, built using proven frameworks throughout the course. A stakeholder map showing who matters most and how to engage them. A communication approach tailored to your situation. And the confidence that comes from having practised these tools, not just read about them.

How the two days work

Day one focuses on the core frameworks - understanding change psychology, assessing readiness, and designing your approach. Day two focuses on communication, implementation, and building a complete change plan. Throughout both days, you alternate between short inputs from the facilitator, structured exercises, and working sessions where you apply everything to your own change.

We keep groups to twelve to twenty people, so everyone gets time to work through their specific challenges.

What makes this different

This is not certification training. We are not preparing you for an exam. We are preparing you for Monday morning - the real conversations, decisions, and situations you will face when you get back to your desk.

We draw on the best frameworks from across the field rather than teaching a single methodology. And every hour of the course is focused on application, not theory. You will leave with something you can use, not just something you have learned about.

If your organisation needs broader support with change beyond training, our change management consultancy works alongside leadership teams to design and deliver lasting transformation.
